The current issue of Law Matters has named Susan Billington, QC as an “Unsung Hero”, and recognizes her leadership in the legal profession and her extensive volunteer work in the community. The magazine is published by the Canadian Bar Association (Alberta) and speaks of her passionate dedication to providing free legal advice and representation to those who otherwise couldn’t afford it. It also speaks to her leadership in making the profession more inviting and inclusive for young lawyers, and in promoting equality.

Susan’s expertise in property rights and her work as Project Director of the Western Law Societies Conveyancing Project are discussed. So too, her ground breaking work as the founding Executive Director of Pro Bono Law Alberta is reviewed, in which she piloted the Law Society’s centennial project to build the professional commitment of Alberta lawyers for access to justice by the most vulnerable members of our society. As the author states “For me, as for many of us, Susan has come to represent the Law Society on many of the most important and impactful policy matters which that organization had ever embarked on.” The full article can be found here: Law Matters | Winter 2014-15
